Once again, I've wasted an appreciable amount of time because of the
friggin' CF7 DevNet META tag, and basically come to the conclusion that
my DevNet subscription was a waste of cash. I don't use Studio,
just the DevNet licensed CF, and I can't use CF7 in that capacity
because it makes non-HTML requests impossible without building in
special processing to remove the META tag it "helpfully" adds to the
content.
I know that DevNet's dead, but that doesn't change the
fact that I forked out a chunk of change for software that cannot be
used for what I bought it for: a use well within the licensed
functionality. Not to be a whiner, but this really bugs the heck
out of me.
There are some comments @ http://www.talkingtree.com/blog/index.cfm?mode=entry&entry=80E120C1-50DA-0559-A0CE3D8628309982 that guide you on a way to remove the devnet tag… might not exactly be legal… YMMV.
If I didn't care about legality, I'd have skipped buying DevNet and just reused our production serial numbers. Be legal, but encourage your vendors to not be stupid about their licensing, especially when they go back on their promises. Regarding DevNet servers, the phrase "fully functional" is in there, even though CF7 is clearly not.
I was doing some research on Devnet and came across this blog post.
I just want to say that, I find it ironic that you actually bought the software, but don't care about legality.
The devnet servers 'expired' at the same time as your devnet subscription. Unless you got (or renewed) a Devnet subscription very late in the game, your subscription was most likely expired at the time of this writing.

I bought DevNet such that my last renewal was very near the cutoff date. I should say that this was far from the first time I ran into this problem. Just happened to piss me off enough to finally yell at "no one".
Regarding the legal issues, we've since stopped using the DevNet server, and are in the process of rolling all of our applications off CF completely. We should be almost totally CF-free by the end of the year. It's simply ridiculous to spend more money on licenses for development servers than on production servers.
Just for the record, i mis-read the second post, thinking you said "I don't care about legality I'm going to use production servers serial numbers on our dev box." In fact, you said the exact opposite.
As such the first portion of my previous post is incorrect.
